LUKUVUODEN VARRELTA 2020–2021 20 2. Space Travel - Not My Cup of Tea! Space travelling seems to be all the rage these days with people all over the world waiting to sign up for trips to the moon or may- be even Mars! There is an active discussion going on about the safety and the risks in- volved. Some have disregarded these pos- sible risks and safety issues just wanting to experience the thrill of space travel. What would be more exciting? All the talk around this surreal subject has most of us on edge. It seems like yesterday the first trained astronaut made it to the moon and now it seems we are rushing to get the rest of us civilians off the face of the earth and onto the face of the moon. But are we even ready yet? The discussion of inhabiting Mars is premature, for the fact that we shouldn't talk about moving to another planet if we don't even know how to take care of this one. For some of us all these plans to make space travel the norm for our society seem like some weird futuristic parallel universe. We should occupy our minds on saving the planet that we have right here instead of how are we go- ing to escape it. It seems unethical! We move at such a fast pace making it seem like we don't have enough time to think of the consequenses of these plans. Not enough peo- ple have made it to the surface of the moon and back alive for us to think we should go. We're evolving at a fast enough pace as it is in so many other fields. This can cause way more problems than it can solve and god knows we already have enough problems that we don't know how to solve.
